چکیده
We present Aurora, an open-source package for particle transport, neutrals and radiation modeling in magnetic confinement fusion plasmas. Aurora's modern multi-language interface enables simulations of 1.5D impurity transport within high-performance computing frameworks, particularly the inference coefficients. A user-friendly Python library allows simple interaction with atomic rates from Atomic Data Structure database as well other sources. This a range predictions, both power balance spectroscopic analysis. discuss here superstaging approximation complex ions, way to group charge states reduce computational cost, demonstrating its wide applicability Aurora forward model beyond. also facilitates neutral analysis, experimental data simulation codes. Leveraging capabilities SOLPS-ITER results, we demonstrate that exchange is unlikely affect total radiated ITER core during high performance operation. Finally, describe ImpRad module OMFIT framework, developed enable analysis inferences on multiple devices using Aurora.

Size scaling of turbulent transport in magnetically confined plasmas.
Transport scaling with respect to device size in magnetically confined plasmas is critically examined for electrostatic ion-temperature-gradient turbulence using global gyrokinetic particle simulations. It is found, by varying device size normalized by ion gyroradius while keeping other dimensionless plasma parameters fixed, that fluctuation scale length is microscopic in the presence of zonal ...
متن کاملRunaway expansion in magnetically confined electron plasmas
Magnetic confinement of neutral plasmas in a tokamak is one of the most promising avenues for generating power via nuclear fusion. Plasma disruption and energy loss, however, continue to cause problems even as larger experimental plants are being built. In particular, cyclical disruption of the plasma’s core electron temperature is a persistent but poorly explained phenomenon. In this paper, I ...
متن کاملMicrostability of magnetically confined electron-positron plasmas.
It is shown that magnetically confined electron-positron plasmas can enjoy remarkable stability properties. Many of the microinstabilities driving turbulence and transport in electron-ion plasmas are absent if the density is so low that the Debye length is significantly larger than the gyroradius. In some magnetic configurations, almost complete linear stability may be attainable in large parts...
متن کاملElectromagnetic Wall Torques from Magnetically Confined Plasmas
A direct method to measure the localized magnetic shear stress and hence electromagnetic torque or force exerted on a wall by a fluctuating magnetic field is presented. A model of the wall is needed when the magnetic measurements do not include the normal component. Explicit formulas for thin and thick walls are given. Estimates of the force in illustrative Alcator C-Mod tokamak plasmas provide...
متن کاملLarge-scale gyrokinetic particle simulation of microturbulence in magnetically confined fusion plasmas
As the global energy economy makes the transition from fossil fuels toward cleaner alternatives, nuclear fusion becomes an attractive potential solution for satisfying growing needs. Fusion, the power source of the stars, has been the focus of active research since the early 1950s. While progress has been impressive—especially for magnetically confined plasma devices called tokamaks—the design ...
